Meet Márta and Pete

Hi! Or as we say here ‘Szia!

(pronounced  ‘Seeya’ - which sounds more like you’re saying goodbye in English!)

Márta and Pete are our guest curators who have chosen items and made recordings to transport you to Budapest, Hungary. Márta is an artist and art therapist born and raised in Budapest, Pete is a musician and teacher from Bristol, who moved here in 2024.

When we met we were living in different countries, and now we’re really happy that we chose Budapest to finally move in together. There is so much beauty here – opulent architecture, tree-lined streets with café terraces, and improbable and dreamlike monuments that decorate the Danube’s banks.

Budapest is generally quiet for a capital city, full of parks, and easy to get around. But we live in the 9th District, a busy, up-and coming area mainly populated by young professionals and families, full of bars and arts centres.

We’re close to the Danube where we love to cycle, walk, drink, and take in the views - especially at ’Golden Hour’ when the setting sun lights up the city’s landmarks.

In this photo we’re on Liberty Bridge, one of our favourite spots. We also enjoy going out in downtown Pest where you can eat food from all over the world, meet friends in one of the many bars and take in live music. We especially enjoy hearing traditional Hungarian instruments fused with dance beats, and Budapest has a big jazz scene too.

When we’re craving nature we head to Margaret Island in the Danube, to sit under the trees, for a forest walk in the Buda Hills or, in summer, to the beaches along the river north of the city, where locals swim.
